Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand – Isaiah 41:10
For He will deliver the needy when he cries, the poor also, and him who has no helper -Psalm 72:12
In this blog post, we would like to share with the stories of three ServeNow sponsored children from Uganda. While their young lives have been full of struggles and challenges, their endurance and faith is inspiring!
Joshua is a 14-year old boy in eighth grade. He is the youngest of three children and his parents are separated. He lives with his mother and siblings in a suburb of Kampala. His parents have low incomes and Joshua has been constantly kicked out of schools because the family couldn’t afford to pay tuition and this has affected his academic performance.
In fourth grade God answered his prayers and Joshua was approved for a sponsorship program through ServeNow changing his life for the better. “My family was relieved of the burden of paying school tuition for me. I joined High School this year which will prepare me for real life, and further my value in the future workplace. I hope to become a medical doctor and provide for my family and my community. My mother has struggled with a skin disease for years and whenever my siblings get sick our father struggles to find money to for good medical care. I am grateful to ServeNow and my lovely sponsors, for the great changes they have brought into my life and now my future looks bright!
Lisa Mutonyi is a 14-year old studying in ninth grade. She comes from a family of four that lives in a suburb of Kampala. Growing up her parents struggled to make the tuition payments for her school. She says, “It broke my heart every time I had to miss school because of lack of tuition.” In fifth grade her life changed dramatically when she was sponsored through ServeNow. “ServeNow Ministry not only gave me education which brought joy and peace to my life but it also helped my parents because they are no longer worried about paying for my tuition but can now pay for my siblings’ tuition and rent, which used to be a big struggle.”
With a proud smile on her face, Lisa say that she is thankful for her wonderful sponsors for the support provided to her family. She will always be grateful for the gift of education that ServeNow has made possible. Many children like Lisa are having their lives transformed when they are assigned a sponsor who will support their education.
Phoebe Nabwiire is 11 years old and attends sixth grade in a primary school in Lusaka. She is one of four children and lives with both her parents in a suburb of Kampala. Her mother is a housewife and her father is a carpenter and they struggle daily to make ends meet. As a result, Phoebe has been constantly chased out of school because of the family’s failure to pay for tuition. In 2015 Phoebe was identified as one of the vulnerable children to benefit from the ServeNow sponsorship program as her schooling had been compromised due to finances. Her life has changed and she is now studying to become a medical doctor and no longer has to worry about missing school.
“I am so happy and thankful to ServeNow Ministries and my sponsors for supporting my education. This has relieved my parents of the burden of school fees.” She continues: “I am so thankful to ServeNow and my sponsors. When I complete my education, I want to help children, especially girls, go to school and not just be at home doing domestic chores and getting married before the age of 18! Maybe I will someday be someone who can stop these ongoing problems in our community.”
